BRIDAL GOWNS
A Family Business

Marketing Director of family run, The Bridal Warehouse, Nayna Jaen, gives an inside look at new trends, talks of merging the classic gown with contemporary motifs, and reveals a new collection in the making.

Caribbean BELLE - Bridal Gowns - A Family BusinessCB: How was The Bridal Warehouse formed?

Nayna: The Bridal Warehouse is a family owned and operated business that was formed in 2005. Actually, it developed after we had the opportunity to share a relative’s bridal gown shopping experience in Trinidad. The company was first established solely to provide wedding invitations online as a spin-off of our already established design company, Converge Creative; but after witnessing the somewhat limited and exorbitantly-priced designer bridal gown options that were available at that time, the decision was made to separate the bridal business altogether and expand our product offering to include bridal gowns.

Initially, we were a wholesale company supplying bridal boutiques in Trinidad and across the Caribbean with stylish, contemporary and very affordably priced designer bridal gowns on a wholesale basis, but after receiving numerous direct requests from brides, by 2007, we entered the world of retail. Today, our core products are designer bridal gowns.

CB: What is the company’s mission and some of the unique services offered to brides?

Nayna: We firmly believe that every single bride, regardless of budget, size, location, or culture, should have the opportunity to wear the gown of her dreams on her big day, and so our mission is simply to make that dream a reality. Some of the unique services that we offer include designer bridal gowns, wedding invitations, favours and accessories all in a single location online where brides can shop at their convenience. We carry a balance of contemporary, classic, conservative, and Muslim bridal gowns to meet the culturally diverse needs of brides today. We offer bridal gowns from top designers that are affordably priced (from as little as $99 USD) and special order designer and couture bridal gowns that can be made to a bride’s custom measurements. We also accept international credit cards and ship directly to the Caribbean (and worldwide) or to a US Skybox or freight forwarder.

Caribbean BELLE - Bridal Gowns - A Family BusinessCB: What do you feel is the appeal of the DreamON Bridals collection that you now carry?

Nayna: DreamON Bridals describes the concept for their newest collection as an invitation to brides to dream and to believe. Their concept centers on the ideas of innocence, romance, dazzle, and felicity, with the gowns in this newest collection designed to invite brides to star in the leading role of what can only be described as their own magical romantic story.

I believe the appeal of this collection is its truly distinctive and breathtaking designs. Every bride wants a gown that is as different and as unique as they are – one with that “wow” factor that makes jaws drop. They’re looking for that dress that truly makes them feel like a princess, the gown that they just know is “the one,” and that is exactly what this latest collection from DreamON Bridals offers. As DreamON Bridals’ concept describes, it truly is an invitation to brides to dare to dream – to star in their own unique and magical love story.

CB: The collection seems to defy the unconventional and lay claim to the fact that a traditional wedding dress, a classic A-line in satin and tulle with ruffles, bows, lace and beading still has a very modern day and timeless appeal. Do you agree?

Nayna: Yes definitely. With this new collection, DreamON Bridals has effectively married the conventional with the unconventional, the old with the new, to create enduring designs. Their collection successfully integrates classic motifs with more contemporary elements to create designs that are one of a kind.

CB: What are the trends in wedding gowns that have caught your attention recently?

Nayna: Ruching and dramatic draping that flatters every shape and size, dropped waists, and lighter fabrics such as taffeta, tulle, and organza are popular choices today. Floral accents and ruffles are making a comeback, and a touch of colour is in. An interesting trend that has emerged is the use of revealing corset bodices with see through lace. While this sexy trend is sure to catch the eye of the groom, it definitely does not work for the traditional church wedding!

Caribbean BELLE - Bridal Gowns - A Family BusinessCB: What are popular picks among brides of late?

Nayna: Our brides continue to favour A-line skirts, but have embraced ruching as well as skirts that have pickups or are bustled. White gowns and chapel length trains continue to dominate, but ivory gowns have gained significantly in popularity. Of course, classic styles continue to endure, and stylish, contemporary bridal gowns that are affordably priced have been especially appealing with the recent economic downturn.

CB: Tell me about the Aara Moda collection. It’s designed by your company via liaising with different manufacturers, correct?

Nayna: That’s correct. Aara Moda is our own private line that is the result of working with various manufacturers to bring forth unique designs that we believe will appeal to our brides. This collection acknowledges and addresses the cultural diversity of brides today. It is an exquisite couture line – all gowns are made using the finest fabrics, lace and crystal beading sewn by hand.

CB: Whom do you think this collection appeals to?

Nayna: This collection is all about balance. Aara Moda offers a mix of contemporary, classic, conservative, and Muslim bridal gowns for culturally diverse brides. Simply put, there is something for everyone. This collection will especially appeal to brides who have unique requirements when it comes to bridal wear, for example, the Muslim bride who is looking for a less revealing but stylish bridal gown that integrates some of the latest design elements (such as intricate crystal beading or skirts with pickups or ruffles) with traditional Muslim wear. With Aara Moda, brides can have the best of both worlds.

Caribbean BELLE - Bridal Gowns - A Family BusinessCB: In your opinion, what is the strength of this collection?

Nayna: Aara Moda’s primary strength is that it acknowledges, respects, and addresses the cultural diversity of brides today and does so using only the highest standards in bridal gown fabrication utilizing exquisite fabrics, laces and crystal beading. caribbean BELLE

caribbean BELLEIn the midst of love’s bliss, it is easy to forget that the idea of a perfect marriage is just a fairytale myth. We have heard the ‘happily ever after’ ending so many times since our childhood that we have subconsciously come to automatically expect the same from real life too. Yet, everyone knows deep down that married life is not perfect and there will be ups and downs in any marriage, just like in any other aspect of life. After all, we even say, ‘for better or for worse, in good times and in bad’ as part of the traditional marriage vows...Click here to read more

dealing with a stillborn, miscarrige, infertility and the unexpected

caribbean BELLEThe doctor's eyes were very sorrowful. He apologised and told us that he could not find a heartbeat. Mary-Lou started breathing heavily, repeating, “No, no, no.” I tried to hug her but it was very awkward because of how she was lying. I didn’t know what to think or say; I just focused on Mary-Lou, trying to hold her. Mary-Lou started groaning, then crying, then stopped and just stared at the ceiling. Hundreds of things were going through my head about what this meant – memories of our hopes, confusion about what needed to happen next, fears of it’s implications on Mary-Lou. I felt this was the worst thing that could have happened. The baby was nine days late by then, and was going to be induced on the following Monday. It was full term and fully developed; it had grown these nine months, and now, nothing...Click here to read more
