FUSION OF FASHION AND CARNIVAL

“This is the land of calypso, limbo and steel pan…lest we ever forget…and I wanted to create the fusion of fashion with the Carnival. The celebrations are a mere 2 days on the streets of our various cities, but the expressions, imagination and efforts cumulatively are sometimes years when these inputs are considered.

The glorious color combinations and contrasts of textures created in ‘mas’ were paired with clothing to come up with what could be considered our ‘national dress’ as I’ve combined obvious flavors of heritage and sense of history into these ensembles. Drawing on the flavor of the East (including India, the Arab world and China)…the power of Africa and the splendor and refinement of Europe…for me these embody and encapsulate the coming together to be one…which in essence is what Carnival really is!”
