Megan and Wolfram
How did you and your Wolfram meet?
(Megan): Wolfram and I met when I was fourteen years old, and he was seventeen. I met him at the squash courts at the oval in Port of Spain. I was learning to play squash and he was getting his driver’s license. Wolfram's driving instructor would drop him at the oval after his lessons as he also played squash. I must add that he was always late for his squash lesson, which is typical for Wolfram. We "limed" at the oval whenever we got a chance and quickly became friends. Wolfram swears that when we met I lied about my age and said that I was fifteen instead of fourteen but I don't remember lying! That has been an ongoing mystery ever since. I knew things were getting "heated" when one Thursday afternoon he bought me a Walls ice cream after squash. Little did I know what was to come!
What were your first impressions of each other?
I remember being fascinated by how shy and mysterious Wolfram was. He barely spoke and that interested me. I wanted to know him. I was also intrigued by his name which is very unique. Wolfram found me to be cute and friendly but he said that I asked too many questions and it bordered on annoying! The things us women have to go through!
In what ways are you alike / different?
I tend to be emotional and sensitive, but also fun loving, whereas, Wolfram is very practical, logical and stubborn. Our extreme differences in personality complement each other; we are continuously learning and growing together. Fortunately, we are both active people - we love being outdoors and playing any sport, so our familiar interests bond us. I am very competitive and I try my best to beat him at everything but it hardly ever works out that way! We truly are so different from each other and I believe that this is healthy, but our differences sometimes result in healthy arguments! Okay, fine, we argue all the time!
How did he propose?
Wolfram knows how special down-the-islands is to me; we’ve had many wonderful memories there at his family’s beach home. One Friday after work he suggested that we head down there for the night, and I decided to take advantage of any opportunity to go! I did not think anything of it as I am used to Wolfram's spontaneity; he is always planning and doing something!
In retrospect, he was acting a little strange that evening, but I honestly did not think anything of it. All I could think about was the brownies we bought at Hi-Lo. We had dinner, poured ourselves some wine, and walked down to the jetty. We sat by the stairs talking and after a while he went down on both knees and asked me to marry him! The ring was absolutely beautiful and I literally could not stop staring at it for hours. It was a lovely, tender moment and I could not think of a more romantic place for him to propose.
What were you going for in terms of the look and feel of the wedding?
I was going for a classic feel with a tropical / Caribbean flair. We chose vibrant colors for the bridesmaid’s dresses and as accents throughout. I especially wanted to create a warm, welcoming, relaxed and hospitable atmosphere for our guests.
Sometimes pictures only tell part of the story. What were the most memorable moments for you?
To be honest, every moment was memorable, but walking up the aisle to my future husband was an overwhelming and heart pounding experience. Also, the speeches at our wedding were incredible and so meaningful, especially my sister, Erin’s, (maid of honor) speech. I remember her making fun of the fact that Wolfram never had a car that worked properly and his cars were constantly breaking down! We live on top of a very high hill and Erin remembered that one afternoon, Wolfram’s car broke down at the bottom of the hill and he still walked to the very top to visit me. She reckoned, "Any man willing to abandon a smoking car at the bottom of a hill like ours and walk the rest of the way is worth holding onto. His undying love was made clear!"
What elements do you think made your wedding unique?
Our reception took place at my parent’s home, the very home I grew up in, and the same home where Wolfram would visit almost every day and eventually become part of the family. The big joke is that my parents have fed Wolfram dinner for the past ten years! No wonder he stuck around! There was also an appearance of a "tassa" group, which was wonderfully uplifting. I will never forget that!
How did the wedding reflect your personal style as a couple?
We wanted our style to be simple yet stylish and chic. But most importantly we both wanted a wedding with "heart" where we could genuinely celebrate our love for each other.
What were the "must-haves" - the things you prioritized on the day?
It was very important to me that getting ready for my wedding day was done in a calm and comfortable manner. Another top priority was the photography. I wanted the photographer to capture as many memorable moments as possible.
Your dress was gorgeous. Who was the designer / retailer?
I was inspired by a few dresses I spotted in a bridal magazine, and with the help of Meiling - who was able to advise me on my choices and ideas - and her fantastic team, I came up with a design that reflected my personal style. I absolutely adored my dress; it was exactly what I wanted!
What was your walk-up song?
Our walk up song was Pachelbel's Canon in D, which Wolfram actually chose. He played it for me and I loved it instantly. For our first dance we chose Can't Help Falling In Love originally sung by Elvis Presley, but we decided to use the Andrea Bocelli version. ![]()
